April 2015 Announcements

[April 19, 2015]

No TKD Class Saturday, April 25th
Due to the Illinois Marathon there will be no TKD class this Saturday, April 25th. There will be an increased amount of traffic and multiple roads shut down in that area of campus, however if you are able to access the ARC on Saturday you can definitely review forms and techniques prior to the belt test.

Belt Test and Potluck – Sunday, April 26th
The end of the semester belt test is scheduled for Sunday, April 26th followed by a potluck. Warm ups will start promptly at 10:00AM! In turn, I recommend showing up 15 minutes early to ensure you are there on time. If you plan on testing you must be at the warm-ups, in turn higher belts you might want to bring a small snack (banana, energy bar or sports drink) to keep your energy up while waiting for your test to begin. The ARC opens at 9AM on the weekends so I wouldn’t recommend showing up any earlier than 9am but please set your alarm clocks if you are not an early riser!

Also, if you are not testing please still wear your uniform since you can definitely help out during the test by holding targets, free-sparring, taking pictures and encouraging your fellow club members. Afterward, there will be a traditional potluck at my place in Savoy, IL starting as early as 5pm.

Belt Test Schedule (subject to change depending on how many students testing)

      • 10:00am – 10:30am : warm-ups & basic kicks
      • 10:30am – 12:00pm : white – yellow, yellow – green, green – high green
      • 12:00pm – 2:00pm : high green – blue and higher belts

Fee
The belt testing fee is $10 and this can be paid in cash or check on the day of the test. The fee covers boards, belts and other testing items. If you are re-attempting for the same belt level there is no fee required.

Other Items:
Please review the techniques for each belt rank that will be evaluated during the test on the club website: http://publish.illinois.edu/tkd-illinois/belt-ranks/. Also, everyone that is testing should review the rules sheet with the Korean terminology (click here for rules sheet) and have a favorite technique prepared. You should be able to demonstrate your favorite technique on both sides. If you are testing for Blue Belt level or Red Belt level you need to email me a short essay about “What being blue belt / red belt Means To You” prior to the test.

Potluck Details and sign-up forthcoming…
[April 1, 2015]
I hope everyone had an enjoyable break and it was nice to have several of you in town to train with last week.

High-Green Belts Leading Warm-Ups
During April there will be several higher belts leading warm-ups to prepare for the young instructor level (blue belt). Please remember school rule number two and give these students the utmost respect as they challenge us physically at the beginning of class.

Participating in Belt Tests – Sunday April 26th
If you plan on participating and being evaluated for the next belt ranking please let me know either in person or via email so that I make sure to order enough boards and supplies. Also, please review the belt ranking information and school rules available on our website http://publish.illinois.edu/tkd-illinois/belt-ranks to help prepare for the test.

Next week I will send out another email with the belt test schedule, fees, other testing items and club potluck dinner.
See most of you in class tonight,
Candice
