November 2014 Announcements

[November 5, 2014]

The potluck dinner will take place at my house and begins at ~5:30PM.
Things to bring: A tasty dish, dessert or beverage to share with the club and feel free to bring a friend or significant other.
Also, if you are attending sign-up to bring an item to share on the shared Google spreadsheet so that everyone doesn’t end up brining brownies: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OlLF1sBKCefLln8PYbORcLLOkAM6HO9LlpSUWHMbttk/edit?usp=sharing

Please check your email or facebook event for address and directions,

Congrats:
First, congratulations to our newest white belts Mary and Daniel

Belt Test Information:
As mentioned previously there will be two belt tests this term (lower belt ranks in November and higher ranks on December 6th). This Sunday warm ups will start promptly at 10:00AM! In turn, I recommend showing up 15 minutes early to ensure you are there on time. If you plan on testing you must be at the warm-ups, in turn green belts you might want to bring a small snack (banana, energy bar or sports drink) to keep your energy up while waiting for your test to begin. The ARC opens at 9AM on the weekends so I wouldn’t recommend showing up any earlier than 9am.

Also, if you are not testing please still wear your uniform since you can definitely help out during the test by holding targets, free-sparring, taking pictures and encouraging your fellow club members. Also, I would like to take an updated club picture for the website right before the test so try to be on time. Afterward, there will be a traditional potluck at my place in Savoy, IL starting as early as 5:30pm. I’ll create a facebook event with the address and send a separate email on Wednesday.

Belt Test Schedule (slight changes from previous email)

      • 10:00am – 10:45am : warm-ups (lead by high belt) & basic kicks
      • 11:00am – 12:30pm : white – yellow, yellow – green
      • 12:30am – 2:00pm : green – high-green

Fee
The belt testing fee is $10 and this can be paid in cash or check on the day of the test. The fee covers boards, belts and other testing items. If you are re-attempting for the same belt level there is no fee required.

Other Items:
Please review the techniques for each belt rank that will be evaluated during the test on the club website: http://publish.illinois.edu/tkd-illinois/belt-ranks/. Also, everyone that is testing should review the rules sheet with the Korean terminology (click here for rules sheet) and have a favorite technique prepared. You should be able to demonstrate your favorite technique on both sides.
