Tech Tip of the Week: Optimize your Google Searches

Google search can be an immensely helpful tool in our daily lives, and there are some ways we can take advantage of the full capabilities of the search engine.

  • Putting a search phrase with quotation marks will fetch results for the entire phrase, not just the individual words
    • If you do not know the exact phrase you want to search for you can use asterisks within the quotation marks as placeholders for unknown words
  • You can use a hyphen before a term to exclude that term from the search results
  • If you want to search a specific site you can use site:example.com in addition to your search terms
  • If you want to find a site that has cited or linked another specific site you can add link:example.com to your search terms
