Tech Tip of the Week: Joining Zoom via Moodle in Safari Browser Error Message

Recently users have been experiencing an error message when trying to join Zoom classes via Moodle while using the Safari browser. This error message is due to third party cookies and pop ups not being allowed in your Safari browser settings. If you have been getting the error message ‘Sorry, your session was expired. Please refresh the page or login again.,’ please check out this Wiki documentation from the Help Desk that explains the steps you would follow in order to ensure you can join Zoom sessions via Moodle on Safari in the future! As always, if you have any further questions don’t hesitate to reach out the Help Desk.

Tech Tip of the Week: Interactivity in Online Video Lectures

After an instructor expressed their dislike of the lack of interactivity in their online course, the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) responded with ways to add interactivity to online classes, specifically when using asynchronous videos.

Some of the highlights include breaking the videos up and adding them as parts of a Moodle quiz where they are broken up by questions or using Illinois Media Space to make the video itself interactive.

Tech Tip of the Week: It’s a New Semester!

Welcome to the new semester!

This week’s Tech Tip covers some of the most relevant and helpful resources and tips to prepare you for the start of the semester.

Follow us the rest of the semester for a new Tech Tip each week!

Tech Tip of the Week: Finding Classes in Moodle

Are you having trouble figuring out how to find your upcoming courses in Moodle? Did you lose a course you thought you had on your dashboard? Is there a course on your dashboard you wish you didn’t have to look at?

Watch this quick tutorial on how to use the Course Overview block!

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact the Help Desk. You can email ischool-support@illinois.edu, call 217-244-4903 or 800-377-1892, or chat with us live.

Tech Tip of the Week: Editing a Zoom Meeting on Moodle

If you scheduled a Zoom meeting but forgot to change a setting or simply need to edit the meeting, don’t fret!

If you schedule the Zoom meeting through Moodle you will be able to click on the name of the meeting:

Scroll to the bottom and you will find an option to edit the meeting:

You can then edit the meeting as you wish before saving:

If you edit a recurring meeting, the change will apply to all future meetings as well.

Tech Tip of the Week: Change at the iSchool

Students returning for the fall semester will definitely notice some changes to the iSchool. Many of them are physical changes to the building (new furniture! new offices! even *gasp* new buildings!?) but a lot of change comes from online!

Though the ITD office may have moved around, the Help Desk is a steadfast institution. You can still find us in the same place!

You WILL however find our Moodle in a different place. Courses were previously hosted on our homemade courses.ischool.illinois.edu. Starting this semester, you will join your classes from the campus-wide Moodle learn.illinois.edu.

This is an exciting change that we are all tackling together! There is one more potential change in the future but we will save that for another blog post.

Hope everyone is enjoying their last few weeks before the semester!
