Tech Tip of the Week: Collaborative Platform Library

Are you looking for a new way to collaborate with classmates for group projects? Or, are you an instructor looking for ways to engage your students in Zoom classes?

The iSchool Help Desk has compiled a library of collaborative platforms to help students and faculty incorporate new technologies into their coursework. You can check out the Collaborative Platform Library on the iSchool Wiki. This library contains links to collaborative platforms, descriptions and use cases, documentation, and some examples of projects created on these platforms.

Feel free to reach out to the Help Desk if you have any questions on how to use these collaborative platforms!

Tech Tip of the Week: Sharing a Portion of Screen in Zoom

Did you know you can share just a portion of your screen during a Zoom meeting rather than your whole desktop screen? It’s relatively easy to do so!

To share a portion of your screen, click the green share screen button at the bottom of the Zoom window. When the share screen settings window pops up, select the “Advanced” tab at the top.

On the Advanced menu, select the “Portion of Screen” option and then press “Share.”

A green window will then appear on your screen. You can adjust the size of this green window to fit the area of the screen you want to share.

Tech Tip of the Week: iSchool Syllabus Project

Class registration is quickly approaching! Are you still deciding what iSchool classes to take next semester? It can be difficult to choose, especially when there are so many classes that sound interesting. To aid in your registration decision-making, the iSchool has compiled a Box folder of syllabi from previous semesters which can be accessed by all iSchool students.

Domo Arigato Mr. Lagotto 🤖

This week’s Pet of the Week is Domo!

Domo’s full name, Domo Arigato Mr. Lagotto, is a riff on the 80s hit “Mr. Roboto” and his breed Lagotto Romagnolo. Domo is a super smart dog who loves to learn new tricks, play with other dogs, and cuddle on his own terms! Everyone the Help Desk loves this cute dog and his creative name!

A Two-for-One PotW Special: PepĂŞ and Marrom

This week’s Pets of the Week are PepĂŞ and Marrom!

These two canine sisters were rescued as a pair, and they could not be more different! PepĂŞ, the smaller dog, loves to boss sweet Marrom around. And despite Marrom being larger, PepĂŞ still manages to be the alpha dog in the house. Although these two fight like any siblings would, PepĂŞ and Marrom get away with it because they are so cute!

Big thanks to their human, Gabi, for sharing PepĂŞ and Marrom with us!

Meet Lucy

Her full name is Lucille Mildred but you can just call her Lucy, and she is this week’s Pet of the Week!

Lucy is a pleasantly plump cat who often screams when she wants food. Her favorite activities are napping in the sun, staring at bugs (but never catching them bc #lazy), and sitting on her human Spring’s laptop. Despite her sassy cat attitude, Lucy is a very cuddly cat and loves everyone she meets!

This week’s Pet of the Week is Lainey!

Lainey is a beautiful cat who could very easily be a cat model. I mean, look at her big green eyes . . . she really knows how to smize! With Lainey’s beauty and her human Jessie’s photography skills, we at the Help Desk think these two could be America’s Next Top Model and Photographer Duo!

Meet Daenyris aka Danny!

Pet of the Week is back for the fall!

This week’s PotW is Daenyris aka Danny, a very chill leopard gecko, who can often be found burrowing herself under the bedding in her tank, and reluctantly engaging in dance battles with her leopard gecko neighbor Alan (a previous PotW pet). Danny’s daily activities are quite intriguing to the cats who live in her household. As pictured, the cats often perch on top of Danny’s tank to keep an eye on her!
