Everybody Eats @ Bevier Café:

Students can come and enjoy a meal at Bevier Café and “pay what they can.”  In addition, there is a jar as they come inside the service line with coupon cards that others have purchased to “pay it forward.”  They can grab a card and enjoy a free lunch or choose to pay what they can, whatever they are most comfortable with.  Bevier Café will continue to serve the same delicious menu, but with four distinct payment options.

  1. Pay the suggested price (menu price)
  2. Pay what you can (name your own price)
  3. Pay more (suggested price + a little extra)
  4. Pay it forward (buy a meal for someone else)

The Diversity & Inclusion Networking Exchange (DINE):

The Diversity & Inclusion Networking Exchange (DINE) will be held on Wednesday, November 4, from 5-7PM, through Zoom. Students will have the opportunity to:

  • Connect with employers who value diversity and inclusion
  • Practice networking in a virtual setting
  • Hear what employers look for in new hires
  • Learn what questions they can ask to determine if an organization fits their needs

Critical Language Scholarship Information Session:

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS), provided by the U.S. Department of State, is a fully-funded, intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for undergraduate and graduate students. The CLS institutes cover one academic year of university-level language coursework in eight to ten weeks over the summer, and include cultural programming, local language partners, and excursions. Free Flu Shots:

Free flu shots are now available to all Illinois students who have paid the Health Service Fee. A University of Illinois ID card must be presented at the time of service. Free events and food in the Memorial Stadium:

Every Friday and Saturday night (until Oct. 17) from 9pm-1am there are free events and food in the Memorial Stadium.

Friday Night is Movie Night!
A double feature movie, with free hotdog, popcorn, candy and drink (bottled water & hot chocolate).  You can bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks as well.  Also, bring blankets, pillows and make yourself comfortable.  $4 Beer and hard seltzers for purchase (21 and up with a valid ID).  Doors open at 8pm and first movie starts at 9pm.

Saturday is Concert Night!

If you are enrolled in fewer than 12 hours for the fall semester and planning to remain so, then you need to fill out the form available on this website.  Note the guidelines ( for example, you cannot underload if you have an advising agreement that stipulates a minimum of 12 hours).  If you’re not sure whether you can or should underload, please consult a college advisor.

Did you know?

You probably all do know this, but I didn’t until a helpful new student clued me in (thank you, E.B.), so I’m sharing it here just in case.  If you’re in the registration system and you select a course in your summary and then go to “Instructor/meeting times” you can click on the instructor name and the email will pop up.  In some cases that will be easier/quicker than trying to find them in the directory, as I had previously suggested.  If you are not yet registered for a course and want to reach out to an instructor, then the directory is still your best bet.

Study abroad scholarship

The Gilman International Scholarship Program provides awards of $5,000 (plus up to a $3,000 supplement for critical languages) for U.S. citizen undergraduate students to pursue summer, semester, or academic-year study abroad opportunities in other countries. This is a need-based award, and to be eligible, you must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant.

The National and International Scholarships Program will assist in reviewing your scholarship application material. In fact, we welcome the opportunity to help make your application more competitive! To get you started, we are offering a two-day informational event about the Gilman Scholarship.

Pre-Law Students

Kappa Alpha Pi is the University of Illinois’ oldest, largest, and only exclusive pre-law co-ed fraternity on campus. With over 100 members, KAP strives to prepare pre-law students with the tools necessary to successfully enter law school. Student Advocacy Coalition

The Student Advocacy Coalition (SAC) is a bi-partisan student organization that promotes civic engagement and lobbies legislators for higher education and student rights on behalf of the University of Illinois. SAC is housed under the University’s Office of Government Relations and provides opportunities for students to engage with state and federal legislators online and in person. SAC members are students from all walks of campus, diverse backgrounds and majors. Members build professional development skills through one-on-one interactions with their legislators, panels with alumni who are trailblazers in their field, and discussions on critical issues impacting our country. This year, our calendar includes a Dialogue Series with the 4 major political parties on campus, Policy Panels with state legislators and community leaders on the Black Lives Matter movement, and more! SAC believes being involved is more than attending mandatory meetings, it’s about participating in activities that are actually interesting, and spending your time in a community of people who care about making a difference! Partnered with other state chapters, we have a 45 year track record of making social change in the US through our organizing efforts on college campuses across the state.

IllinoisPIRG interns learn valuable organizing skills, like building a team of volunteers, taking on leadership within a campaign, organizing events on campus, lobbying elected officials, and working with the media. In addition to building skills and adding to a resume, our interns work to create tangible policy change on behalf of the public interest. Interns work between 5-10hrs per week.

secondary education minor application closes august 31

SourceLab Information session

SourceLab is a student-led digital humanities research collective that publishes digital documentary editions of historical sources for public use. In addition, we host open events throughout the semester on the relationship between Digital Humanities, classroom education, and the future of the historical record.  SourceLab draws on graduate and undergraduate students from across campus, and our graduates have gone on to careers in teaching, digital publishing, and archival work, as well as graduate school in a range of disciplines.

There is an information session coming up on Wednesday, August 26th at 4:30pm over Zoom. At that meeting you will meet some of the members of SourceLab and learn more about what we do, the events coming up, and how to get involved. There will be time for questions at the end.

Campus Rec Food Assistance Program

The ARC Student Food Pantry is a shopping style pantry. Food is set up on shelves by food groups. Shoppers walk through the space and take food off shelves according to pantry guidelines. This model allows shoppers to handle food, choose items that they will eat and enjoy, and look at the labels just as if they were shopping in a store. Food Science and Human Nutrition Students will be available to answer shopper questions and to provide resources to prepare the food. The ARC Food Pantry is located in the rear of the ARC Instructional Kitchen (beside the indoor climbing wall).
