Submissions for the 2022-2023 academic year’s Kevin T. Early Memorial Scholarship are being accepted now. This scholarship is made possible by an endowment from William and Donna Early in memory of their son, a poet, Kevin T. Early. The Department of English at Georgetown University is currently accepting applications for their free-standing Master of Arts in English program. The program is an academically rigorous two-year Master’s program and admits students in either the fall or spring semester. Networking Opportunity for Current Undergraduates with Illinois Alumni:
The Illinois Leadership Center will be hosting its annual Imprint I-Program on February 25th, 2023 from 10am to 4pm in the Illini Union ABC Rooms. During this program, it will be inviting back Illinois Alumni spanning several decades as well as many professional fields.
Historically it has invited professionals from fields including but not limited to Accounting, Architecture, Education, Engineering, Finance, Law, and Public Health. During this I-Program students will be able to connect with these Alumni, serving as an opportunity to establish and practice maintaining networking opportunities for their future careers.

Writers Workshop End-of-Semester Events
As we near the end of the semester, the Writers Workshop will offer a range of activities to support students’ writing. More information is available at our calendar. Writers Workshop is available to provide feedback on writing, whether students are working on course papers, presentations, job application materials, or personal statements. It has appointments and drop-in hours, and it is available online and in-person at the Main Library, Grainger Library, and MCB Learning Center.

UAFS Applause-National Undergraduate Literary Journal Open For Submission
Applause, the national literary arts and culture magazine housed at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, is currently accepting submissions from undergraduate students around the country for its 33rd issue. The deadline for submissions is 2/14/2023, but the earlier the better for submissions.
Applause is an annual, full-online journal with a strong web. Each contributor is paid $25 for their published work. Work selected for publication will receive both publication and national exposure through its social media support systems. The response time is approximately one to three months.
Each annual issue is a (loosely) themed issue. The current call for submissions is as follows:
The (In)Evitable Ending
Evitable; adj. That admits of being avoided; avoidable
Every poem, story, and essay begins with knowing there’s an end, but the ending doesn’t have to be inevitable to satisfy the reader. The narrative’s end isn’t always the best ending to choose. Sometimes the end of “what actually happened” is really the poem, story, or essay’s beginning. We’re looking for original poems, stories, essays, and artwork that showcases what happens when we avoid the avoidable.
Imagine the ending. Avoid it. Then send it to us.

Interactive Narrative at UIUC
English / Creative Writing-focused courses offered through Game Studies and Design coming in Spring 2023:
- GSD 411 (CRN 74830) – Interactive Fiction with Twine (Spring Full Term, Online), which teaches students the most prominent Interactive Fiction and narrative prototyping tool in the game industry – taught by Chris Klimas himself! (the creator of Twine)
- GSD 390, Section WGA (CRN 74996) – Literary Hypertext 1: History (Spring part A), which explores the history of interactive narrative in its various forms, starting with paper
- GSD 390, Section WGB (CRN 74997) – Literary Hypertext 2: Practice (Spring part B), which allows students to explore modern interactive fiction, and create their own
Undergraduate Research Week and Symposium (URS):
Scheduled for Thursday April 27, 2023, the URS is a daylong event organized and hosted by OUR where students can present poster, oral, and creative presentations. The URS will be held in the Illini Union.
The application portal for students to apply is now live; the deadline for students to apply to present at the 2023 URS is March 10, 2023 at 11:59 pm.

The Penn Undergraduate Law Journal (PULJ) is soliciting submissions for its twentieth issue. Please see below for details:
Qualifications For Submission:
Submission Deadline: January 8th, 2023 at 11:59 pm EST
PULJ is seeking articles ranging from 20 to 100+ double-spaced pages in length. The journal is especially receptive to research articles, senior theses, independent studies, and final essays written for courses. Articles need not be written on United States law—they can be written on the laws or legal system of any nation. The journal considers submissions on a rolling basis, so if your piece is not finished by the noted deadline, please still submit it for consideration in the subsequent issue.
Students in any field of study are encouraged to submit their work, so long as their pieces relate to law or legal systems. Possible disciplinary perspectives include, but are not limited to, history, criminology, economics, sociology, anthropology, English, biology, neuroscience, philosophy, linguistics, psychology, and political science.

Collision Call for Submission:
Collision, an annual undergraduate publication at the University of Pittsburgh, is currently open for submissions of undergraduate fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and art. By submitting to the magazine, you will be considered for its writing and cover art contests. udall scholarship:
The University of Illinois seeks to nominate sophomores and juniors for the Udall Scholarship. Udall awards $7,000 to sophomores or juniors in any field of study who are taking action to address environmental concerns and are committed to a career related to the environment. There are also special awards also for Native American students interested in Tribal policy or health care (no need for these interests to be related to the environment). Students must be US citizens, US nationals, or US permanent residents. A successful applicant will have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate leadership and a commitment to service. The campus deadline is January 30, 2023 to be considered.

All Undergraduate Students Welcome to Apply to 2023 NYU Creative Writing Summer Intensives:
New York University’s College of Arts and Science invites visiting undergraduate students to participate in their short-term summer programs. The month-long creative writing retreats in Florence and Paris may be of particular interest to students. The Writers in Florence and Writers in Paris programs are only offered during the summer, and students are encouraged to immerse themselves in their host city through both reading and writing assignments. Participants focus on one of three genres—poetry, fiction, or creative nonfiction—and attend daily writing workshops and craft seminars. 2023 faculty will include Catherine Barnett, Raven Leilani, Jonathan Safran Foer, Katie Kitamura, Ken Chen, Mark Bibbins, and Matthew Rohrer, among many other acclaimed writers. All coursework receives a NYU transcript, transferable to other institutions.

Apply for CLA’s Caroll Mills Young Study Abroad Scholarship:
The CLA Caroll Mills Young Study Abroad Scholarship is designed to support students at member institutions who want to participate in a study abroad program. The scholarship is open to any student who meets eligibility requirements and is presently attending a CLA college or university. A CLA college or university is one where a member of the College Language Association is presently employed or is a retiree.
Each application must be verified and signed by a faculty sponsor who is a current financial member of the College Language Association. Complete applications must be RECEIVED by 5 p.m. EST on Friday, February 10, 2023 for study abroad in summer or fall 2023.

FLAS Fellowships for English Majors:
Do you study a less commonly taught language (any language except French, German, and Spanish)? Are you a U.S. citizen or permanent resident? If so, consider applying for a Foreign Language & Area Studies (FLAS) fellowship for summer 2023 or academic year 2023-24. FLAS fellowships support both undergraduate and graduate study in modern foreign languages in combination with global or area studies. The purpose of the FLAS program is to train students to integrate global knowledge into a future career in areas of national need like cyber security and business, where knowledge of additional languages is crucial.
