Justin Ahrens

Background:

Justin received a graphic design degree from Illinois Wesleyan University. Shortly after graduation, he for for several years at a graphic design firm in Arizona. After returning back to Illinois, Justin started his own firm called Rule29. This firm focuses on several different markets, preferring to delve into multiple different markets instead of focus on solely one, has been tremendously successful and his firm has received multiple awards and recognitions.

Student Comments:

The way the firm has been set up was interesting to me. The interviewee emphasized on the power of communication and networking. He mentioned that his firm usually collaborate with other businesses to make a project done. They were a creative strategic firm. They embrace teamwork and emphasis on creativity. The approach to building a business that simultaneously gives back to the poor people in Africa is admirable. By teaching the art of shoe making to the overlooked population of Africa, Rule29 not only help those people to have a better life, but also it has created a prosperous business for the firm. – AH

The most valuable information I learned for Justin was to always surround yourself with other knowledgeable people than can help your cause. Justin conceded that he did not know everything, but instead focused on collaboration with others to help drive him towards success. He did not know a lot about shoe design, but was interested in helping Africa so he relied on the knowledge of his sister to make the idea reach fruition. – RS
