IMPROVE WATER MANAGEMENT

Using small spaces for a stronger system

“Daylighting Peoria’s Sewers” proposes to create swales along the major roads of Griswold, Western, and McArthur in the South Side Neighborhood. These swales will rejuvenate the lots and side streets that are adjacent to major corridors both ecologically and socially. Vacant lots are each designed with a two-foot-deep basin and are simultaneously imagined for differing programmatic activities. Residents will participate in determining what programs are beneficial for the sites closest to their homes. The proposed basins will be capable of storing 37 million gallons of water, the estimated volume necessary to prevent CSO events from occurring.
