Paper on seismic modeling of IABs

Now available online – paper on seismic modeling of integral abutment bridges:

Kozak, D.L., LaFave, J.M. and Fahnestock, L.A. “Seismic Modeling of Integral Abutment Bridges in Illinois,” Engineering Structures. dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.engstruct.2018.02.088

This work presented in this paper is part of the research project “Calibration and Refinement of Illinois’ Earthquake Resisting System Bridge Design Methodology: Phase II,” which is sponsored by the Illinois Center for Transportation.

Agarwal and Kozak Present Research

Congratulations to Aradhana Agarwal and Derek Kozak, who recently presented at national conferences!  Aradhana presented her paper, “Seismic Performance Assessment of Steel Multi-Tiered Ordinary Concentrically-Braced Frames” at the Structural Stability Research Council Annual Stability Conference, which is held as part of the AISC North American Steel Construction Conference.  Derek presented his paper “Effects of soil conditions on the seismic response of three-span integral abutment bridges” at the ASCE Structures Congress.

Kozak Defends and Deposits Dissertation

Congratulations to Derek Kozak on defending and depositing his PhD dissertation – “Seismic Behavior and Design of Integral Abutment Bridges in Southern Illinois.” Derek is co-advised by Prof. Larry Fahnestock and Prof. James LaFave, and his research is part of the project “Calibration and Refinement of Illinois’ Earthquake Resisting System Bridge Design Methodology: Phase II,” which is sponsored by the Illinois Center for Transportation. Derek will be joining KPFF in Seattle as a structural engineer.  Best wishes to Derek as he heads to the West Coast and begins his professional career!
