Major Paper 1

Revising my first major writing assignment was a little intimidating. I saw it as a challenge and as a way to look back on the beginning of the semester. As I started to revise the paper, my initial concerns were eliminated. I realized that recalling all the information that I learned for this analysis project was coming back to me easily. I started this revising process by reading through the entire paper. I found this a helpful way to refresh my mind on the subject. After my first reading, I looked through all of Professor Hays’ comments. I pulled up my paper on word and compared it to the submitted paper that had the comments. I went through the paper on word and edited all the minor mistakes that I made, such as passive voice and run on sentences. Once I fixed all of the grammatical errors, I reread the suggestions Professor made specifically mentioning what I should add for this portfolio project. I then went through my paper and added warrants in areas that I had failed to and supported them with more backing. I decided to make these changes, for a couple of reasons. First of all, Professor Hays’ comments influenced a majority of the modifications I made. I also made a lot of the revisions depending on the lessons we had in class; primarily the ones on passive voice and expletive construction. I learned how much the Toulmin Analysis affects many author’s writing style. I was also able to determine the major flaws in my writing. I noticed how I overused certain words and poorly structured many of my sentences. My thinking has drastically changes because, through the semester, I have become more aware of passive voice and the Toulmin analysis as a whole. I am able to recognize how to use the analysis process effectively. This paper was daunting to start, but gave me a lot of insight on how to approach the rest of my revisions
