Minor Paper Revisions

Dear Ishani,

I picked these particular pieces to revise because they were the two minor assignments that showed the most growth in my writing. For the first minor assignment that I revised was the very first assignment that we received: a critical response. I was still getting used to college and Rhet 105 was the first class of my first day of school at U of I. When I got the assignment, I was confused and wondered how to connect the two articles that we were given. Even after I turned in the critical response, I knew that I had not produced my best work. The feedback that Professor Mary gave me immensely helped me to better my work for the next one. As the semester progressed, I got better and better at writing them. My improvement didn’t just show through the higher grades that I was receiving, but through my ability to analyze the sources better. As the semester went on, I became better at connecting to the pieces that I reading, to produce a better response.  For the second minor assignment, I chose to revise my race card. For this assignment, I spent a lot of time crafting the best six words that would encompass my race. Over the summer, I used to tell you all my crazy Jewel stories after work. Even though we used to laugh about all the interesting people that showed up in my line, I realized how much my 2 years at Jewel affected my outlook on life. It was the first real experience that I had outside of the “Naperville bubble”. I can’t exactly explain how these words came to me, but once I started writing, I couldn’t stop. Out of all the writing assignments in this class, I felt the most passionate about my race card. A part of me loved the challenge of only using six words, and another part of me just loved how creative I could get with it. Nevertheless, the race card project and critical response 1 showed my transition from writing to finish a homework assignment to writing to portray my beliefs and emotions towards a particular issue or idea.
