Minor Paper 1

For the race card, since I did not have direct feedback from Professor Hays, I decided to make revisions that I thought made my writing better. To rework my paper, first, I edited the paragraph that I already wrote. I then wanted to expand on my ideas to make a more finished product. I broke the piece into three parts. The first paragraph included the race card that I already turned in, with the necessary changes. I added the second paragraph to expand on my experiences of being an Indian American. The third paragraph tied together both of my ideas and answered the question I proposed in the race card. When I initially wrote this assignment, I provided a single answer as my response. But, upon spending more time writing and thinking about my culture, values, and where I come from. I realized that my American values are not the only thing that affects my life, my Indian heritage also plays a significant role. The main reason I decided to expand on my paper is because my thinking completely changed. My revision process was a little bit harder than that of my major papers. Since I had no written feedback, I was initially struggling to make changes. I was not sure what keep and what to eliminate. For this particular piece, I had to trust my own editing skills. I also had to force myself to cut some parts out to make sure the entire paper flowed well. Through this process I learned that eliminating words, or even entire sentences, made my writing concise and easier to understand. I also learned to trust my own instincts and not be so worried about the grade. I wrote this paper out of joy and passion for the subject, but in the end, coming to terms with the fact that it will not be the best piece I produce, helped me write more freely.
