ABOUT 8 to CREATE

8 to CREATE is an interdisciplinary student-run organization established in 2014 by Patrick Earl Hammie, Associate Professor.

The organization produces an annual public live art event that hosts a mix of eight nationally and locally recognized artists who each create a unique artwork for eight hours.

In 2019, they gained non-profit status and curated their first alumni exhibition at the Krannert Art Museum.

Their goals are to provide opportunities for students across campus to gain professional art and design experience, make the typically private creative process accessible and open to the University and regional community, and to break down institutional and social hierarchies by bringing together artists from a variety of experiences and affiliations into one creative space. A few featured artists include Matthew Woodward, Hong Chun Zhang, Shelby Shadwell, and Tracy Lee Stum.
