This seminar will use “The Seven Principles for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education” by Chickering and Gamson (1987) as a framework to explore how both faculty and student-made digital video can positively impact teaching and learning.

We invite you to bring your laptop and/or device with webcam to participate in this informative and hands-on session.

Lesson Introductions and Lectures delivered via Illinois Media Space

The seminar will explore five main topics within and supporting the framework: (1) creating professional mini-lectures in both the studio and on-location to deliver content, (2) using informal videos to create instructor presence/connection, (3) expanding communication and collaboration opportunities through video conferencing, (4) using “In-Video” questions within lecture videos to increase student engagement and understanding, and (5) allowing students to produce videos to complete activities and assignments. Many examples from College faculty will be shown and their development process/timeline will be clearly outlined.

The staff from both the eLearning and Media teams will be present to answer your questions and assist you in planning the next steps for inclusion within your own course.

Video conferencing via Zoom

Again, you are invited to bring a laptop or device with webcam so that we can practice interacting with and creating videos together.
