Reflection Assignment

After writing my first couple of assignments I was able to learn how to cite in MLA style and write in Toulmin style as well. Both styles in writing were new to me, but I learned how to work with both of the with practice and with feedback from my instructor. Looking at the comments on my first essay I would like to question what it really was that was cliche in specific. While writing my paper I felt as if I was following what was being asked for; however, my grade does not reflect that.  Also, I noticed that the comments stated that I have to try and stick to my topic more and not just throw in words to fulfill the word count, which I admit was true because I was afraid of being harshly penalized for not meeting the full word requirement. Overall it seems as if I just had some problems with wording and citing. In my next assignment I plan on looking at the rubric more to make sure I do not lose easy points. For example, making sure that the title is structured right and that I do not forget to include in text citations. The loss of points is reasonable and understandable because it was on things that I should have looked at and could have accessed by paying more attention to the rubric. Awkward wording and grammar are flaws that I tend to deal with, but I plan on being more cautious with in my next assignments to hopefully receive a better grade. In regards to my critical response assignments I feel as if I am doing just fine on them. All I really have to do is make sure my title is structured correctly as well and pay attention to little flaws like commas and certain capitalization’s.

As time goes by in class I realize that my first couple of writings contain errors, but they are errors that can easily be improved since the content of the class consists of writing tactics that are useful. As we move forward in class I learn new skills that can help me go back and make changes to my writings that will most likely improve my grade. The more that I am involved with this class the better writer I become. Therefore, collecting all these skills will help me at the end of this semester because I will be able to revise my writing and make changes that I will benefit off of for my portfolio.
