In Performance Spaces

When a production moves into the performance space for tech, dress rehearsal and performances, it can get unclear about who is in charge of what and who your resources are if you need help. You may see a lot more of the student stage managers and a lot less of the director or your faculty adviser.

Because performance spaces are the lab spaces for Illinois Theatre, your first point of contact is likely to be a student supervisor like a stage manager, assistant stage manager, crew head, designer or technical director.  It’s always okay to approach fellow students for support and allyship, but they may not be able to obtain the outcome you are looking for because they are students too.  So consider these alternatives to student supervisors:

  • Theatre 100 Instructors – Terri Ciofalo (tciofalo@illinois.edu), Maria Miguens (miguens2@illinois.edu), or Cynthia Kocher (ckocher@illinois.edu)
  • Faculty Show Advisors in Level 21
  • KCPA Shop Heads
  • The Director for show or any other Specialists (movement director, choreographer, music director, fight director, intimacy director, etc.)

You Can Also Try These Pathways:

If you prefer not to contact any of the people listed above, or you spoke to them but you desire further action, you can pursue one of these alternative pathways:

Your area head or producer:

If you are not comfortable with the above options, or you have used them but you desire further action, make an appointment with the Head of Illinois Theatre, Valleri Robinson (valleri2@illinois.edu) or the Associate Head, JW Morrisette (jwmorris@illinois.edu)
