Creating the Quantum Ensemble

Daniel Inafuku is a 3rd-year graduate student in physics. He received his undergraduate degree in physics and mathematics at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. His current research discipline lies at the intersection of mathematical physics, biological computation, and theoretical computer science.

In the future, Daniel would like to become involved with public scientific outreach. So when he heard of this great opportunity to merge physics and art, he knew that he had to participate.

In the piece, Daniel plays one of the members of the Quantum Ensemble, a group of characters who take on multiple roles, including ultracold bosons, colorful photons, unfriendly electrons, and more! They assist the main characters, Terra, Akash, and Sapienza, as they explore the recesses of the quantum world by setting up the scene and becoming the “quantum environment.”
