Are you fresh off the boat?
FOB (fresh off the boat) usually describes immigrants that have yet to assimilate into the host nation’s culture and language. Being born in China and immigrating to the U.S. at the age of 7, I was often asked if I was a fob. I didn’t take any offense to it because I was still young. Since I was at a young age, I learned English and assimilated to U.S. culture quickly and less people assumed that I was a fob.
“Unpacking the Invisible Backpack” was basically about being aware of being privileged of the things that you have. Such as being white or male or female. The article really brought light about many things that I haven’t thought about before. The article tells me all this information about privilege and at the end of the article, there is no solution to fix the problem. There are a lot of perspectives given in the article that I rather just not think about since its just tiring.
