Wilkin Awarded Hugh C. Atkinson Memorial Award

John Price Wilkin, Juanita J. and Robert E. Simpson Dean of Libraries and University Librarian at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has been named the 2019 winner of the Hugh C. Atkinson Memorial Award. Wilkin will receive a cash award and citation during an ALCTS event at the ALA Annual Conference in Washington, DC.

Named in honor of one of the pioneers of library automation, the Atkinson Award recognizes an academic librarian who has made significant contributions in the area of library automation or management and has made notable improvements in library services or research.

Laila Hussein Moustafa Selected as Fulbright Specialist

Photo of Laila Hussein MoustafaLaila Hussein Moustafa, distinguished assistant professor at the University Library has been selected as a Fulbright Specialist by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and World Learning. She was recommended by the Peer Review Panel for placement on the Fulbright Specialist Roster for a tenure of three years starting this winter.

Hahn’s Proposal Second-time Winner of EBSCO FOLIO Innovation Challenge Grant

EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) is providing grants to four academic libraries as part of the EBSCO FOLIO Innovation Challenge. The grant program is awarding up to $100,000 in grants to libraries to develop innovative technology solutions that address the challenges academic libraries face. The second round’s winning proposals came from the University of Alabama, the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, the Johns Hopkins University and Lehigh University.

Online Ethics Resource Launched

Ethics CORE, an interactive resource designed to provide researchers and professionals in the sciences, social sciences, engineering, and mathematics with information on ethical practices and materials on Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR), is now available at http://nationalethicscenter.org. The University Library played an integral role in the $1.5 million National Science Foundation (NSF) grant awarded to Illinois to develop the site, which is housed in the Grainger Engineering Library Information Center (see the 2010 project announcement at www.library.illinois.edu/news/NCPRE.html).

Co-principal investigators include Taft Broome, Howard University (Civil Engineering); Nicholas Burbules, Illinois (Education); Michael Loui, Illinois, (Electrical and Computer Engineering); and William Mischo, Illinois (University Library).
