Looking for opportunitites beyond the classroom? Certificates are a great way to add to your resume and a great talking point to showcase all of your abilities. Please see below for a list of some of our most popular certificates. NOTE: The college of media offers a wide variety of certificates, for information all all of their offering please contact them. The Leadership Certificate: The Leadership Certificate is a multi-semester structured program designed to provide students with a customized experience to help develop leadership skills in a way that integrates leadership education, reflection, and experience. Certificate students are matched with a Leadership Coach to partner with during the program and create a Leadership Portfolio documenting their leadership growth upon completion. The Certificate Program is grounded in the Illinois Philosophy of Leadership which states that “all students can exercise leadership” and a skills-based model of leadership development. The enrollment periods to begin the Certificate occur during the first 10 weeks of each Fall and Spring semester. Public Relations Certificate This professional development program provides a practical foundation in the principles and practice of public relations. The undergraduate-level coursework is designed for students from any discipline who wish to develop public relations competencies and skills to enhance their primary area of study or expertise. Public relations is important to many disciplines, including engineering, English, computer science, communication, business, agricultural communications, and numerous others. You can find information on how toapply, core courses, and other requirements on the webiste. Computer Science Certificates The certificates can be acquired after you obtain your bachelor’s degree. Each certificate requires a completion of three 4-credit hour courses (4 hours each, a total of 12 hours) identified in the certificates offerings below. The grade in each course must be a B or higher and all three courses must be completed within a two year timeframe. When all three courses have been completed, please contact Rhonda McElroy at rmcelroy@illinois.edu to request a review of completed courses and pending successful completion, a certificate. LENS (Diversity) Certificate The LENS Diversity Certificate Program is a year-long cohort program that helps Illinois students build important skills and practice for engaging diversity on campus and beyond. LENS Diversity Certificate participants take courses, attend workshops and regular cohort meetings, and design their own action project. The LENS Diversity Certificate is open to any university student with a full academic year (fall to spring) remaining. Professional Advertising Certificate Our Professional Advertising Certificate Programs provide an opportunity for advertising, marketing, and communications professionals to enhance their knowledge of brand communication in today’s global context through short courses and other activities. Certificate enrollees participate in sessions with industry professionals from the Midwest Our comprehensive certificate programs will allow those enrolled to gain industry-specific, distinctive skills in communicating across channels while keeping a consumer-centric approach. Media Sales Certificate This new program will provide students with a valuable set of skills which could help them towards developing a career in the advertising/media sales industry. All of the new sales-related courses have been approved and the curriculum has been set. The program will consist of 15 credit hours and will require the following courses: MDIA 270 (Introduction to Media Sales) BTW 271 (Persuasive Writing) MDIA 320 (Sales Management) MDIA 370 (Advanced Media Sales) MDIA 495 (Internship/Individual Study) The program is open to any undergraduate students on campus, regardless of major. This program will encourage students in LAS and other colleges outside of Business to develop foreign language expertise with international business incorporated into their particular program of study.
