Course Opportunities

ENG 315– Service learning is a great opportunity to build leadership and team building skills…and why not get credit for doing it? ENG 315 is service-learning dedicated to benefiting nonprofit organizations. Learning through inquiry, acquisition of skills and knowledge to address projects, and development of project and team skills. Student teams work on a project of importance proposed by and in partnership with each organization. Projects vary by term.

ACE 240– Many of us want to a finance course…. ACE 240 is a great place to start! This course examines principles of financial planning applied to individuals and households, with attention to organizing and analyzing financial information, budgeting, acquiring financial assets, managing credit, planning for taxes, investments, risk management, retirement, and estate planning.

ACE 161 or CS 105– As technology grows in our society, so does the need to know computer applications. ACE 161 and CS 105 are both great classes to learn computer applications. ACE 161 is the instruction and practice in solving data-related problems with microcomputers and general purpose software packages. CS 105 is learning the functions and interrelationships of computer system components: hardware, systems and applications software, and networks. Widely used application packages such as spreadsheets and databases. Concepts and practice of programming for the solution of simple problems in different application areas.

 

Market Information Lab

The Margolis Market Information Lab (MIL) and the Infinium Trading Lab (TL) at the College of Business, University of Illinois are equipped with state-of-the-art electronic sources of financial and investment data and analytical software platforms such as Morningstar Direct, Bloomberg Professional, Capital IQ, and Crystal Ball.

The MIL Lab Assistants offer weekly face-to-face tutorials that introduce faculty and students to these tools. Please visit our current teaching schedule and tutorial descriptions.

the MIL provides customized one-on-one sessions for faculty to specifically address individual teaching needs. Please contact Dr. Martin Maurer for a consultation and needs assessment. A central part of the MIL’s mission is to integrate the research and analytical software applications into the curriculum. We would greatly appreciate to hear any ideas and suggestions you may have toward accomplishing this goal.
