I took each of these photographs over the past year.  I decided to place these photographs throughout this portfolio to add color and show my travels around the world. Below each photograph is a brief summary of the significance of these photographs. The bolded words lead you to where you can find each picture.

Header: My grandpa has an apartment in Sarasota, Florida. Last winter, we went down to visit him. I took this photo as we were crossing a bridge and caught the most perfect sunset.

Background: Here is an interesting fact about me: my favorite place in the whole world is Bettendorf, Iowa. My dad was born there and his parents, brother, sister-in-law, nephew and niece still live there. My childhood memories consist of all the adventures I had in Iowa. This photograph was taken over the summer in my cousin’s backyard. Although this photograph was taken during a difficult time, I’m glad I have a permanent memorialization of my favorite place.

Metaphor: This past June, my grandmother took my family on a trip to Florence, Italy. For myself and my siblings, this was our first time being in Europe. My grandmother is an art historian and this trip was not as much a vacation as an opportunity to soak up all the Italian art and culture we could manage in a week. This photograph was taken on a balcony of a building located in the gardens of the Pitti Palace.IMG_0072_2

Metaphor: Every year, my high school takes the senior class on a three week trip to Israel. This trip was an amazing experience. We traveled all over Israel and heard many educational speakers. I had been to Israel once before with my family when I was fourteen but being there as an adult was much more meaningful. This photograph was taken in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Metaphor: This photograph was taken overlooking a valley in Israel that housed Arab and Jewish communities that are able to coexist. Although this ability to coexist is very uncommon in Israel, this photograph represents the possibility of hope and peace.
