Metaphor

Think of something you love. It could be a hobby, thing, or activity.

The reason you should choose something you love is because you’re an expert on that topic. You understand it to the fullest of your ability and probably know more about it than most people. Writing can be a hard topic to understand, so the best way to comprehend it is by comparing it to the thing you love most.

I love skiing.

The first step of skiing is preparation. You need to find a location, find transportation, get your skis/equipment, and get a lifting pass. The best way to do this is makan outline of everything you need. This is just like writing. You need to make an outline of your essay before you start writing. This will give you the organization you need to get all the information sorted out to make a great essay.

Reaching the peak:

The only way to the top of the mountain is to go on the ski lift. It’s the start of your skiing journey. The shaky lift slowly brings you higher and higher till you reach the top of the mountain. As you get higher you notice the beautiful view of the mountains and everything down below looIMG_4462ks smaller and smaller. This correlates to the introduction of your paper. It’s the first thing you write when you’re working on your essay. It incorporates all the things you’re going to write about in one paragraph to show the reader what it’s all about. One of the most important things about skiing is the map of the mountain. There are so many different trails and slopes that you need to know where you’re going so you don’t get lost. This is the thesis statement of the introduction. If you’re ever feeling lost or off topic, always go back to the thesis statement (map) to stay right on track.

It’s all about the technique:

Going down the slopes is the best part. It’s finally the chance to show off your skills and techniques. You can take your time weaving through trees or speed down the hill at light speed. The hard part about this is to remember all the different techniques. You need to know what to do to prevent yourself from falling or hurting yourself. This part of skiing is the body paragraphs of your essay. During the body paragraphs, you bring all your facts and information together to support your thesis. It’s important to use all the techniques that you have to make your essay great. Remember important techniques like spelling/grammar, transitions, and citing your sources.

Time to kick back and relax:

After a hard days work of skiing, the best thing to do after is RELAX. You can sit back by the fire and sip hot cocoa, relax in the hot tub, or explore the village and shop. When you’re relaxing you look back on the day and reflect on what you did. You remember your favorite run down the slope and also the time you fell face first down the hill. This is just like the conclusion of your paper. You take everything from the body paragraphs and shorten it by reflecting what you wrote. You touch upon all the things you said to make the perfect conclusion. As you wrap up a great day of skiing, you write the ending of your essay to make it the cherry on top!
