University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

The Summer Piano Institute, hosted by Sinfonia da Camera at the University of Illinois, offers advanced study for serious pianists, including graduate, undergraduate, and a limited number of highly qualified pre-college musicians prepared for artist-level study. Participants benefit from individual lessons with world-renowned faculty, daily master classes, performance opportunities, access to Steinway grand pianos, and recitals by both faculty and students. New this year, Artist Director Ian Hobson will present a lecture on the piano etudes of Frédéric Chopin as well as an interactive chamber music masterclass featuring principal musicians of Sinfonia da Camera.

This truly unique and elite institute also features a concerto competition, available to all participants, with an opportunity to perform with Sinfonia da Camera, the resident professional orchestra of Krannert Center for the Performing ArtsRead more about the competition.

For 2023, advanced pianists of age 14-17 are welcome to apply to the pre-college division. Pre-college division students will participate in the same lessons, master classes and participant recitals, and will also be eligible to compete in the concerto competition.
