My Statement

The RHET 105 classroom is inclusive and filled with hard work. I, as a student, work hard to stay on top of things and participate in class. I enjoy being ahead, but I also like to take time out to relax and socialize outside the classroom. As an architecture major, time management is a skill that is quickly asked of me. Coming up with a schedule is not difficult, but following the schedule is. I enjoy spending time with friends, but do not go out and party like many of my classmates. My beliefs helped me choose what I wrote about. I learned about this university community and my interests with educational facilities. I learned that writing is something that cannot be rushed. Reading, researching, and writing allows ideas to be expanded on. Writing, for me, is best done when under pressure because the pressure gives me the motivation needed to complete an assignment.

Metaphors

Writing is a process, so it would make sense to compare writing to another process. Designing a building is a process, and a long path awaits between the brainstorming and the completed construction of a building. As an architecture major, designing is a process that I will become very familiar with.

Tennis is also a process that can also take a long time, especially if playing with ad and both teams play at an equal level. I love the game of tennis because it is a life long sport. Nothing feels greater than hitting a powerful serve or hit that the opponent cannot return.

Tennis will always be a life long activity for me, but I have already written an essay about winning a tennis match being a process. As I step into my dream of becoming a licensed architect, the process of designing would be something that I would like to use. Designing a house is similar to constructing an essay: some are literal and others are metaphorical.

Reflections

I believe that I have improved from my first couple of Critical Responses to the first major essay. I had struggled a little with wordiness and passive voice in my first Critical Response. My second Critical Response has not been graded yet. I believe that our lessons on wordiness and passive voice have helped me to become a better writer with the first major essay. I have continuously done well with adding sources as well as citing those sources in my papers. I always have peers specifically check for grammar mistakes as well as rely on my workshop group to grade my child’s draft. I hope to continue to improving my writing as the semester goes on.

Research Question

How can low-income public schools obtain the access to contributing to the design of a school that fits their educational needs?

I feel that this is a fairly detailed research question because it focuses on low-income public schools, and the design of a school includes the environment of which they live in. I plan to discuss why it is important for students to be able to contribute to the design of their school, but more so explain practical ways to allow low-income schools to have the resources to design their educational environment as well.

Glasgow Cathedral

I am interested in Glasgow Cathedral for many reasons. My major is Architectural Studies implying that I am interested in architecture. I am particularly fascinated by churches and cathedrals. I am also really into learning about my where I am from. I am mostly Scottish and have family that came down through Canada to the United States centuries ago. Glasgow Cathedral is a church located in southern Scotland. I would love to visit this cathedral in person some day, but reading and researching is about as close as I will get for now. I would research it by finding articles and books about the Gothic architecture. I would just really enjoy gathering more information on such a profound and beautiful piece of architecture.
