Sustainable Policy and Management

Carrick decided to pursue his masters degree after gaining skills in microeconomics, statistics, natural resource management, supply chain management, environmental law, and data science during his undergraduate degree. He has made the Dean’s list every semester at the University of Illinois. Additionally, he is serving as a teaching assistant in the ACE department for a course on the economics of consumption. Outside of school, Carrick also competes with the University of Illinois Men’s Club Volleyball Team and loves to travel, ski, and disc golf.

Isaac has a wide range of experiences in the agriculture field, including internships at Brandt Consolidated, Indigo Ag, Farm Credit Illinois, and Growmark FS. His dynamic work experience has allowed him to develop a well rounded set of skills and knowledge about agriculture. He hopes his education and work ethic will make him a valuable asset to any company. Isaac is interested in pursuing a career in agriculture technology or commodity trading within Illinois.

Shuhei Yamamoto is really loves commodity futures markets. He has analyzed the markets as a newspaper reporter at Nikkei Inc, the leading business newspaper in Tokyo, Japan and as a researcher for nearly 22 years. His passion for commodities mainly comes from love of futures markets in Japan. He is now studying commodity futures in the MAAE program. Yamamoto lives with his spouse and two daughters in Champaign. On the weekends he likes to cook dumplings with his family.

Nick completed his bachelor’s in Agricultural and Consumer Economics and two minors at the University of Illinois in just three years and decided to pursue the MAAE in his fourth year. Nick completed two summer internships with Cargill and worked as an ambassador for his department during his college career. Outside of work, Nick enjoys spending time with nature gardening, hiking, or camping. Nick landed a job with with Guidehouse as a Transportation Cost Estimator after graduation. He will be working in their public sector for the Department of Defense.

In addition to his BS/MAAE, Noah completed a Business minor and a Finance and Market Research internship with an outdoor technology company during his studies. He was able to contribute to the growth of the company by creating financial models and researching market trends. Noah now works as as a Business Analyst at WEC Energy Group.  in which he provided business analysis and technical support to identify trends and insights for the company. In his free-time, he enjoys relaxing by watching his favorite sports teams and golfing during the summer.

Meghan completed her undergrad at the University of Illinois and was awarded the Simms Policy scholarship. From this scholarship, she was able to finance a summer internship in Washington D.C. She developed a love for the chaos and excitement in the city and ended up working full-time while pursuing her master’s degree. While working as a scheduler at the House of Representatives, Meghan realized she wants to work in fundraising or program coordinating in her next role. Meghan enjoys reading and hiking during her free time.

Shirley aims to contribute to the global markets of agriculture. Shirley graduated with her BS/MAAE concentrating on agribusiness and finance in 2020. She was a dean-list ILLINI during her undergraduate studies and worked on several FarmDoc Daily articles with Professor Gary Schnitkey. Shirley is from Beijing and she has been in the United States for 6 years.

Hayden’s aspiration to help crop producers make better informed, profitable decisions motivate his studies in Agricultural and Applied Economics. Since graduating, Hayden has been working at Granular (Research Park) as a Data Specialist aimed at collecting field-level data to help crop producers make data-driven business decisions. He is native to Central IL, and helps manage his family’s beef and grain operation.
