Clark Street Beach

Clark Street Beach is located on the Chicago Lake Plain, an area that was submerged during the Ice Ages.

Waves and currents have carried sand from the southern Wisconsin Lake Michigan shoreline south to Illinois beaches for thousands of years. However, very little sand is transported here from Wisconsin today due to Wisconsin’s beach protection measures and harbor jetties. With increased storms and lake levels in recent years, many of our beaches are eroding, endangering buildings and structures, unique landforms, and ecological habitats. Evanston is part of the Public Beach Protecion Pilot Program, a regional collaboration funded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This project will protect 55,000 yards of shoreline in Illinois.
