ASR Box Beam Core Series

ASR Box Beam Core Series

A series of video images based on a Texas box beam core. (Top-base with cracks is marked in yellow, ASR gel is marked in red.) Exhibits nice radial cracking associated with the reactive chert grains – QXRD demonstrated these cherts to be 50% quartz, 50% amorphous. Not all the reaction gel is marked, due to reactive silica particles within the carbonate limestone. Cracking of carbonate grains can sometimes appear onion-like, with a peeling of the outer portion.
