Cement Microstructure

Cement Microstructure

<intro paragraph>

A cement suspended in epoxy, cut and polished for backscatter electron (BE) and x-ray (XR) imaging. The image is used to identify and isolate individual phases, and reconstruct a composite image of the cement microstructure. Additional operations include: determination of phase fractions, perimeter phase fractions, usage in the 2-D hydration simulation model, and calculation of a 3-D image for use in the 3-D hydration simulation model. (Approx. 500 µm full width.) [Paul Stutzman, NIST]
