HW 1 REFLECTION

For the elements of fiction homework assignment, I fixed minor grammar and spelling errors that I had not seen when writing the assignment for the first time. For the remainder of the revisions, I added more analysis and explanations to my thought processes on the relationship between characters, their development, and plot throughout The Scarlet Letter. I had surface level analysis for this homework assignment as well; however, as we discussed this novel more during class discussions, I learned more through my classmates and their ideas and thoughts on certain characters and their development as the story progressed. Because of the discussions, I was able to add more to my analysis that I had not thought of before in terms of the character development and plot. I talked about the relationship between Minister Dimmesdale and Roger Chillingworth and how this relationship fed one while feeding off of the other. This relationship was the essence of life in Chillingworth, and without Minister Dimmesdale to prey on, Chillingworth lost all purpose in life as he lost his opportunity for pursuit of revenge. This relationship has many surface level elements, but as the story progresses, the relationship gets darker as secret sins are hidden, and it all comes to an end as it is revealed.
