Sam graduated from San Diego State University in 2021 with a B.S. in chemistry. As an undergraduate, he worked with Prof. Jeffrey Gustafson on the synthesis of axially chiral kinase inhibitors to improve their biological selectivity profile. Sam joined the Hergenrother Lab in the fall of 2021 and is currently working on an anticancer project.
