Exploring New Musical Functions: A Metaphor for My Writing Process

Going To Music Festivals

I compare my writing process with my music festival experiences because as my likings and experiences in attending music festivals change it is similar as to how my writing and perspective in writing has changed. Music has made me develop into the person I am today as well as my writing, and both are prevalent in my life which is why I choose to use music festivals as my metaphor.

1. I remember going to my first concert as a freshman in high school I was completely dumbfounded, excited, eager for the concert date to arrive and being completely lost at my first musical Function. I had never been to a rock concert before I didn’t know what to wear, who to take, and how long I would be waiting in line for. Taking a picture with one of my favorite bassists from one of my favorite rock bands, My Chemical Romance, was probably one of the most exhilarating yet intimidating moments of that night. I didn’t know what to say or what to do similarly to my writing process I sometimes don’t know where to start.

2. Once I experienced the first real rock concert I yearned to go to others, and I did I went to Lollapalooza, The pitchfork music festival, Warped Tour, and the Pygmalion music festival. I saw some of my favorite artists perform throughout my high school years and had been to many festivals and each time I went I grew from my experiences. I made new friends, took different people with me and made great memories. Similarly, Throughout my High school years I grew in my writing experiences I was able to learn new writing styles which helped me prepare for college.

3. I compare Exploring new Music functions to my writing process because when I first started writing essays I never knew where to start and what ideas to encompass but as years went by I became more aware of a specific format and now that I’ve taken Rhetoric105 I’ve undergone change in my writing process where I initially didn’t know how to begin but am more comfortable with writing and feel that I’ve been prepared and continue to learn how to apply my skills and do better to formulate good work.
