Artist’s Statement

Throughout Rhetoric 105 I have done a lot of reflection on my writing capabilities and learned new analytical thinking skills. A reoccurring process that came about my writing was making mistakes. I realized how important it was to take a leap and write about what I was interested in which is what I tried to do for my annotated bib and other major papers. Before I took Rhetoric 105, I thought there had to be a structure of writing that I was bound to, but then I saw the complex layers that form a well-developed essay which is why I think making mistakes is something I am less afraid of because its when I’ve developed a better thought process for myself.

I wanted my E-Portfolio to capture the way I feel about writing especially through the pictures I choose. All of my header pictures that are randomized are taken by me because I wanted them to reflect my perspective. A lot of the time I find that I reflect on who I am as a person when I write an essay because although for some it can be a requirement or perhaps it might feel like there are rules to writing I think that in hindsight everyone has their own perspective on how they want to maneuver with their own style of writing which is what I wanted my E-Portfolio to show. I love the freedom of exploring a different topic which is what we did in Rhetoric 105.

If I Could Describe my mood through my writing process it would be this flower.

In this portfolio, I will have revised my annotated bib along with the proposal slides and my political party platform assignment. I chose these two assignments because I enjoyed the process of gathering information and felt passionate writing which is a skill that I found while writing these essays. While Revising these assignments I want to focus on finding a theme or fixing minor errors. For example, in my political party platform assignment, I didn’t do as well as I thought I would, but the feedback I received to fix grammatical issues, formatting, and word usage will help me build a better essay. I noticed that I was afraid of making mistakes, but with making those mistakes I learned to take constructive criticism to then better my writing skills and hopefully be able to revise successfully. As for my minor assignments I chose to correct my critical reading responses #1 and #2 because I remember being intimidated by my first writing assignment and while reading some of the corrections to be made I realized how I was making simple mistakes that could be developed into better responses.

Whenever I need a break from writing I like to play Billiards with my friends. This image was taken by me at a bowling and billiards event.
