This website gathers up campus information about the conversion from Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4 and information about how to use GA4 effectively for your purposes.

Join us at the WIGG Teams Channel where we share tips and tricks about how to migrate to GA4, Google Tag Manager, and how to use the various tools on campus to know what our users are doing on our websites. We also work on this website to publish these tips and tricks.

Goals

This group has been working since March 2023, and our goals are:

  1. A shared group of reports and tutorials that can be used across campus. These would answer common questions that users may have (“how many users hit my website”, “what are my most / least popular pages”, “how effective is an ad campaign”, “what percentage of users completes a certain event”, “what is the path of a typical user who goes to a certain page”).
  2. A list of suggested events that can be added via Tag Manager or JavaScript, along with standard names (“apply”, “give”, “contact”). We’d also talk about which ones of these should be “conversions”.
  3. An Excel sheet that allows users to create URLs based on ad campaigns, UTM, source, Slate information, etc. and guidelines on how to name ad campaigns.
  4. Documentation of steps 1-3 – this isn’t to duplicate Google’s help section, but more of a “this is where things are”. This documentation includes this website.
