Managing Resources

As far as elearning programs are regarded for business models, a college, department or school within the university which is self-funded is the model that I see fit best simply because this model is specifically used when necessary as opposed to being mandatory elearning which might not be as efficient in one department as in another. Specifically for my college, department or school within the university which is overhead-funded, is the most popular and has its strengths because majority of the program at the University are acclimated to this program creating a culturally sound learning environment.Updates to these programs might be the only challenge I see. One might become familiar with the program, and the next year, so many changes take place that make the program confusing and could hinder their learning abilities. The people is who the programs are for, the process should be catered to their learning capabilities, and the project should be ongoing and never ending so assure quality and sustainability.

When I used the term self-funded and mandatory, I simply mean that their are Lone Ranger models utilized that are not required within each department at institutions. When mentioned “My institution,” I was referring to the Lone Ranger model. I focus on this model primarily because most institutions work from a bottom-up standpoint.

Strategic Vision

After watching an interview with Dr. Johnson regarding elearning at an institute regarding strategic vision at an institute or within a department, I realized the importance of a vision along with a strong plan of innovative thinking. Dr. Johnson mentioned that instead of approaching elearning with the same concept of teaching students by just giving the information, the faculty must be more interactive. From an institutions standpoint, he mentioned there being a solid vision with a process of implementation. A thorough budget of fiscal payments for specific programs must be accounted for when implementing an elearning program, data collection for effective program selection. There is always a business aspect to every technological advancement in these types of programs. I agree that a vision is more important than planning because without a vision there is nothing to plan. Things in life have chronilogical orders of achievement and with a vision, one can plan accordingly. I absolutely agree with Bates in chapter two of our text book.

Hello world!

Hello Everyone,

My name is Runnell Townsend Jr. I am a first year PhD student in Community Health and Policy. I’m seeking to learn as much about managing human resource development regarding elearning simply because technology is everything in today’s society so one must embrace the evolutions of modern times and master the inevitable that comes along. My weekly blogs will pertain to the weekly assignments given in my HRE 533 course on elarning.

eLearning Management

The concept of elearning management to me encompasses the many components to elearning. Management is more so the features of elearning which include processing a needs assessment, or having a vision of a particular outcome, planning, creating, implementing, evaluating, and lastly, maintaining the valued outcome. This relates to my definition of elearning because it embodies the different components to elearning from a managerial perspective. Just like any other program designed to impose a visioned outcome or objective, management is the process by which elearning is delivered. For instance, no program is a successful program without evalation and looping back to specific details in order to tweak and make better. If there is no overall process to implement an electronic learning tool or system without productive feedback, then the system could be pointless.

What I mean by Management is the process by which  elearning is delivered is that all of the technological advances and devices created are managed in such a way that they are dissiminated strategically around the world, hence, managing elearning programs. How these elearning programs will reduce cost, what institutions will benefit greatly, and how will it affect learning. Management is merely delivery, but HOW it is delivered.

What is eLearning

eLearning is the ability to create advanced learning through internet and other digital or technological advances globally, regardless of population size at the convenience of the learning and teacher. Digital and technological advances mean the new creations of electronic devices that enable users to work at a smarter pace in an open manner. I use globally because any student or teacher can use elearning at any location of the world as long as internet is available. Convenience is the most influential word regarding elearning simply because any topic can be learned at the convenience of the student. The setting or pace is at the student’s discretion. Open is used in my definition to illustrate the different avenues of learning techniques that can be exercised through elearning.

When I say elearning is the “ability,” I simply mean the advantages/benefits it creates for the consumer.

Digital and technological advcances are not limiited to soley the new creation of an electronic device. It can be an updated version of an already  existing piece of technology as well.
