Two Librarians at Illinois Elected to Serve within American Library Association

 

 

Two librarians have been elected to positions in the 2017 American Library Association (ALA) elections. Kirsten Feist, Instructional Services Specialist, has been elected as Secretary of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) in the Instruction Section. Celestina Savonius-Wroth, Head of the History, Philosophy, and Newspaper Library, has been elected as a Member at Large for the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) in the History Section.

University Library Receives Leab Exhibition Award for “H.G. Wells: Time Traveler” Brochure

The University Library has received a 2018 Leab Exhibition Award for the brochure created for the 2016 exhibition “H.G. Wells: Time Traveler” in the Rare Books and Manuscripts Library. The exhibit, which was timed to coincide with the 150th anniversary of Wells’s birth, was co-curated by Caroline Szylowicz, Associate Professor and Kolb-Proust Librarian, and Dr. Simon J. James, guest curator from Durham University (UK) and leading expert on Wells. According to Szylowicz, Dr. James “shaped the general theme and narrative of the exhibition,” and worked with her to “transpose it into the case structure, not unlike chapters in a book.”

Team from University Library Selected to Participate in Software Preservation Project Cohort

A team spearheaded by Tracy Popp, with contributing support from Karl Germeck, Seth Robbins, and Kyle Rimkus has been selected to participate in the Fostering a Community of Practice: Software Preservation in Libraries, Archives, and Museums project. The team will be exploring options for preserving and maintaining access to born-digital musical compositions deposited within the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music.

Dan Tracy Wins Library Publishing Coalition Award for Outstanding Scholarship in Library Publishing

The Library Publishing Coalition (LPC) Research Committee has announced that Daniel G. Tracy, Information Sciences and Digital Humanities Librarian, is the recipient of the 2018 Award for Outstanding Scholarship in Library Publishing for his article, “Libraries as Content Producers: How Library Publishing Services Address the Reading Experience.” The award encourages research and theoretical work about library publishing services, and recognizes significant and timely contributions to library publishing theory and practice.
