Master’s Advising

I am one of the Master’s Advisors for the Statistics Department. Particularly, I advise students with last names N — Z. The students that I advise, who have approved internships, may take the STAT 593 Internship course. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, I will advise any MS student that needs assistance. My advising hours below are for any student, not just students with last names N–Z. My time as an advisor comes to an end in the middle of August 2020.

Advising Office Hours

Spring 2020  Mondays – Thursdays 10:00 am – 12:00 pm in Illini Hall 103A

My General Advice

Please do come into online office hours via Zoom (not in person) for advising before registering for courses. At the very least, send an email about your proposed course schedule so that we can give you feedback on it and whether those courses will be counted for your MS degree. I sincerely agree that you should take courses that interest you, but be aware that those courses may not count for your MS degree. Several students assume that certain courses (especially non-STAT courses) will count for their degree, when in reality those courses must be decided upon by the MS Advisors and the MS Director. I implore you to meet with one of the MS Advisors and discuss your plans so that we can ensure you are on the correct track for graduation.
