e-Portfolio: Goal 5

Goal 5:  Conduct research that guides informed decision-making in eLearning environments.

Evidence 1:  Researchers attempt to harness the phenomena surrounding management activities in order to understand the essence of effective management and to teach the concepts relative to practicing management.

Theorists and researchers such as John Kotter and Peter Senge, focus their research efforts on organizational change. Bates and Khan similarly study organizational issues, and like Kotter and Senge, both set forth frameworks to define and guide the ever-fluid practice of management.

Evidence 2: …is how the history of educational technology is being interpreted and subsequently conceptualized into multiple frameworks intended to guide future policy and practice. The researchers five, ten, fifteen years from now will answer the questions of today, but until then, the various approaches to implementing technology will serve as the fodder for data collection.

Evidence 3: . . . the best we can do is know that good practice is supported by sound theory and research; be informed; and stand ready to mobilize the limited resources that might come our way . . . even on short notice.

Evidence 4: The role of the e-learning manager is about making decisions that yield the desired outcome.

Reflection:  Khan’s people, process, and product theory is the result of research and evaluation.  It is the outcome of a data collection and analysis process.  Almost all of the federally funded programs and many of the stated funded ones are required statutorily to be evaluated.  This type of research is germane to advancing e-learning and implementing effective instructional practices.
