e-Portfolio: Goal 1

Goal 1:  Understand the relevance of eLearning practices in training and development in academic or corporate settings.

Evidence 1:  Technology is the vehicle that drives an era to the next. What e-learning does is provide the practical training to the personnel who will use the technology such that the maximum benefit is achieved.

Evidence 2: Helping employees know that blended learning opportunities are both relevant and useful to their jobs; keeping the training engaging and interesting; providing uninterrupted time for learning new skills and practices; and providing technical support to navigate the new online systems (Lee et al., 2008) constitute the organizational changes and the primary implementation challenge.

This class has opened my eyes to how engaging and influential e-learning can be (Koller, 2012).  What I have learned is that it is my obligation to harness the value of e-learning and implement staff learning opportunities that honor the adult learners in my organization, engage their intellect, and allow them to genuinely interact.  I’ve been inspired to take action.

Each year, I am required on behalf of my district to train all staff on bloodborne pathogens.  Staff have been watching the same, mindless video for longer than anyone can remember.  I believe there would be benefit in merging the tenets of organizational change with the inter-active and cost-efficient features of e-learning.  I saw a need in my organization to move incrementally toward a more engaging in-service approach, so I proposed to my Team 2 group that our business be an online training service with standard templates for state and federally mandated trainings and that could also provide locally customized training modules.  After we started the project, I found a company that provides this very service.  My district is launching it this fall!   Keeping my fingers crossed for a smooth IPECC  (Khan, p. 11).
