PhD Candidate

Leda Sari is a PhD candidate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Under the supervision of Prof. Mark Hasegawa-Johnson, her research focuses on applications of machine learning and signal processing techniques to improve automatic speech recognition and understanding systems. Her recent research focus is on adapting speech recognition models to improve the robustness of these systems against speaker variation. During her PhD studies, she interned at IBM TJ Watson Research Center and Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories. She is the recipient of UIUC Robert T. Chien Memorial Award (2019) and Thomas and Margaret Huang Award for Graduate Research (2019). Prior to joining UIUC, she received her BSc (2013) and MSc (2016) degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey. She is also an active member of the Graduate Society of Women Engineers (GradSWE) at UIUC.
