Social Events

Social Events on Nov 30 & Dec 1 (optional):

We would like to invite you to join us for an informal welcome reception the night before the event on November 30 from 5:30-8 pm at Bar Dupont and/or dinner at Ambar Capitol Hill Restaurant on the evening of the conference, December 1, from 7-9 pm. While we do not have funding to host a welcome reception and concluding dinner, we thought it would be nice to reserve space for those interested in beginning or continuing further conversations about possible collaborations and sharing of ideas.

While this is in no way a required part of the Area Studies and Outreach Conference, we hope to see many of you there. Both establishments were selected for being easy to travel to by the DC Metro.

November 30, 5:30-8 pm
Bar Dupont is located on Dupont Circle at 1500 New Hampshire Ave NW, Washington, DC 20036.  This is a 2 minute walk from the Dupont Cirlce Metro station, which is a stop on the Metro red line.

Social Event on Dec 2: Museum of African American History (optional)

If you are interested in trying to get “nonprofit group” passes for the Museum of African American History on Friday, December 2nd, the day after the Outreach Working Meeting, please contact Liz Bucrek (Carolina Navigators Program Manager and Instructor, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill) at ebucrek@email.unc.edu.

Regular passes are booked all the way until March 2017, but if at least 10 people were interested, we would qualify as a nonprofit group since we work at Universities. Liz has graciously offered to be the point person, and get the tickets in advance for the group. If you are interested in this fantastic opportunity, please email Liz your full name, and institution name. We are not sure if we will need to provide proof of each institutions 503 (c)(3) status or not, but if people have it, and could attach it to the email, that would be helpful, just in case.
