CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION

This working conference will highlight important themes of outreach across area studies while producing valuable insight into best strategies for engaging with the K-12 communities, community colleges and minority-serving Institutions, and general public. It will provide an opportunity to meet outreach professionals and learn about exemplary outreach programs offered by National Resource Centers. Professionals working in educational outreach and area studies are invited to attend and/or present.

Proposed presentations should address one of the following themes:

  • Outreach to K-12 Communities including Teacher Education Programs and Collaborations with Colleges of Education
  • Collaborative Partnerships with Minority-Serving Institutions/Community Colleges
  • Outreach to Community/General Public

The conference will also welcome colleagues from IFLE. They will give remarks and join us in conversation on resource leveraging/sharing, challenges to outreach, and lessons learned in meeting Title VI outreach priorities.

The conference will take place before the annual National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) conference in Washington DC, December 2-4, 2016. Participants are encouraged to stay for the NCSS conference. If you plan to attend NCSS Conference, you must register directly on their website here.
