Journalism modernizes with citizen journalists and media

Today in media, anybody can be a journalist. All you have to do it whip out your smartphone, take a picture, post it on social media, and suddenly you’re reporting the news. One only has to refer to their Twitter feed or friends’ Snapchat stories to be constantly updated on what’s happening in the world.

Modern media has been revolutionized by citizen journalists. This is great for the public; we get updates as a story unfolds, and we don’t need to wait for a reporter to get on scene. I don’t remember the last time I tuned into a television news channel. If a news story unfolds, I know that it’ll be tweeted about.

This type of journalism is essential for millennials looking to obtain the news. The way that journalism has evolved in recent years has made it easier for people to stay up-to-date on current events. I am glad that journalism is adapting to people’s needs, and I am happy with journalism’s attempts to modernize with the rise of social media.
