Copyright Self Study

Learning Objective

  • This lesson is a good next step for those wishing to learn more about copyright–especially for individuals who are unable to take a copyright intensive course.
  • Allison Nowicki Estell explains both in a written chapter as well as a podcast episode how to make the most out of the independent self study of copyright.

This episode and book chapter is a good primer on how to educate yourself about copyright when you are unable to take a copyright intensive course. This could be used to help students get a basic understanding of how to study copyright for an independent study, a course where copyright is presented as an overview topic, or for librarians in practice wishing to delve deeper into copyright.

Assignment

  • Read the book chapter by Allison Nowicki Estell.

How did they evaluate whether it was authoritative? What lesson(s) about copyright did it teach them? What would be the next step in the self-study of copyright?
