Internationalizing the Community College Library

Program Description

The International and Area Studies Library and the Center for Global Studies at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, are pleased to announce funding to support a one-day workshop for librarians from community colleges in the State of Illinois on July 26, 2019. The workshop will provide opportunities for librarians to share and explore strategies for internationalizing your library.

The internationalization of higher education is a transformative process that seeks to enhance education and research on college campuses. Dr. Betty Leask (La Trobe University) defines this process as “…the incorporation of international, intercultural and/or global dimensions into the content of the curriculum as well as the learning outcomes, assessment tasks, teaching methods and support services of a program of study” (Leask 2015). In this effort, community colleges and four-year institutions are utilizing multidirectional approaches to integrate developments in global and cultural competencies into higher education curricula.

Through this one-day workshop, community college librarians will have the opportunity to present institutional self-assessment reports, share expertise on user services, outreach and engagement initiatives, and discuss ways to form linkages with international counterparts.
