The International and Area Studies Library is part of a campus-wide network of libraries that serve multiple programs of learning and research and that together make up the largest public university research library in the United States. Collection Highlights
Burmese Cultural Microfilm collection: 47 reels of microfilm.
The Yoruba Collection of William and Berta Bascom: This collection contains 470 titles, and covers the Yoruba people of Nigeria for the years 1841‐1973.
Sultan Qaboos Collection: This collection on Oman and Ibadi Islam contains 100 volumes.
Yamagiwa Collection: This collection consists of materials dating from the 14th to the 20th centuries. It contains 1800 volumes.
Mauritanian Arabic manuscripts collection: 104 microfilm reels and includes 2,054 works Charles C. Stewart Papers, Univer‐ sity of Illinois Archives.
North Korean Collection: This unique collection contains works of literature, history, and official documents on North Korean leaders.
South Africa: press digests, 1949‐1972. 13 microfilm reels. This collection consists of weekly typed digest summarizing South Africa’s principal newspapers and magazines issued by the South African Jewish Board of Deputies throughout the first 24 years of Apartheid.
Caribbean Newspapers: Series, 1, 1718‐1876: From the American Antiquarian Society (online)
Hispanic American Newspapers, 1808‐1980: 361 newspapers from across the United States. Part of America’s Historical Newspapers.
The Slavery Microfiche Collection contains primary sources on American slavery, Latin American and Caribbean slavery, and the British and French slave trades from the 16th through the 19th centuries.
Slavery and Anti-Slavery: A Trans-National Archive: Books, periodicals, manuscripts, and reference works documenting world slavery and the slave trade from the 16th century through the 19th.
Travel Writing, Spectacle, and World History: World travel accounts by women from the early 19th century to the late 20th century. Comprises manuscripts, diaries, correspondence, photographs, etc.
Central and Eastern European Online Library: This is an online archive with full text articles from over 1,000 humanities and social science journals and re‐digitized documents pertaining to Central, Eastern and South‐Eastern European topics.
Documents on contemporary China, 1949‐1975. Microfiches 525.
International Graphic Novel Collection: This collection consists of well over 2,000 graphic novels from North and South America, Japan, South Asia, Korea and the Middle East.
Ethnographic Video Online from Alexander Press Databases is a comprehensive online resource for the study of human culture, behavior and society around the world. The collections contain over 1,300 hours of streaming video, including ethnographic films, documentaries, select feature films, and previously unpublished fieldwork.
Kanopy is an on-demand streaming video service for educational institutions that provides students and faculty access to more than 26,000 films. Kanopy provides students access to one of the largest collections of films in the world – including award-winning documentaries, training films and theatrical releases – on every topic imaginable.

Resources on Internationalization in Higher Education
Illinois International Area Studies and U.S. Department of Education Title VI National Resource Centers offer guides to help instructors include area and global studies components in their curricula. The Center for Internationalization and Global Engagement at the American Council on Education provides resources for developing institutional commitment and administrative structures, curricula, student and faculty mobility, and institutional partnerships. Relevant opportunities for funding are also listed in the Internationalization Toolkit.
NAFSA developed resources on comprehensive internationalization, leadership, curriculum developments, trends, and research.
Internationalization Collaborative Across Bloomington is a four-year project between Indiana University Bloomington and Ivy Tech Bloomington that develops faculty learning communities in order to work toward designing global learning experiences for all students. ICAB’s resources page provides materials on course design, pedagogy&theory, and global issues in world areas while the portfolios lists some of the syllabi that came out of this project.
Internationalization of Higher Education Virtual Resource Center makes accessible a variety of resources – articles, studies, good practice examples and models, policies etc. — covering and discussing higher education internationalization processes around the world in all their different aspects.
Association of International Education Administrators lists numerous publications, reports, and blogs for reference.
GlobalEdge at Michigan State University lists valuable online resources to help increase international business activity and global awareness within the realm of community colleges.
Portal of the Inter-Association Network on Campus Internationalization is supported by the American Council on Education and lists various opportunities for professional development, scholarly works, and news publications.
