This summer, our AIS team was thrilled to be a part of the 2018 ISSRM (International Symposium on Society and Resource Management) in Salt Lake City, Utah! Two of our researchers, Elizabeth Golebie and Max Eriksson, gave fantastic presentations regarding our AIS research. Overall, it was a great experience to collaborate and hear from so many experts in the field! Keep an eye out for a future post with pictures from the conference!

Continuing engagement with fisheries organizations
The next two weeks will remain a busy time for the group, and we’re looking forward to continuing our engagement with fisheries managers and researchers. On April 24th, we will be meeting with the Illinois Chapter of the American Fisheries Society. The next week, we’ll attend the Council of Lake Committees meeting in Windsor, Ontario from May 1st-2nd. The positive reception we’ve had in the last few months has been very encouraging, and we’re enthusiastic about future engagements.
Great Lakes Fisheries Commission Committees Meetings
After attending the Upper Lake Committees Meeting from March 19th to 22nd in Sault Ste. Marie, Dr. van Riper and Elizabeth Gollebie are looking forward to traveling to Toronto this week for the Lower Lake Committees Meeting. These committee meetings are a great opportunity for the team to learn more about Great Lakes management activities and ask questions related to our research.
We are also planning to attend the meetings of the Council of Lake Committees, Council of Great Lakes Fishery Agencies, and the Great Lakes Fishery and Ecosystem Restoration Program in Windsor, Ontario this May 1st and 2nd.
Illinois AFS Annual Meeting
Next week, members of the research team will be travelling Grafton, Illinois to attend the Illinois American Fisheries Society annual meeting. Carena van Riper, Cory Suski, and Elizabeth Golebie will be presenting a talk titled “Human-nature relationships and normative beliefs influence behaviors that reduce the spread of aquatic invasive species.” In addition to the presentation, they will also seek feedback on the study design from a focus group of scientists and fisheries managers from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. We’re excited to introduce our project to others involved in fisheries research and management and look forward to their responses.
