Blog 2 – Refining My Research Topic

Dear Larry,

We’ve progressed a large amount in my RHET 105 class. I was recently assigned to read An Interview With Philip Gerard. I felt inspired by the words that Gerard stated in his interview. Gerard made me want to pick an interesting topic that I truly have no knowledge of. I completely agreed with Gerard when he claimed that writing what you know is not the best way to write. By only writing what you know, you create boring literature. It may seem completely counter intuitive to say that ignorance is an advantage, but I whole-heartedly agree with Gerard in this scenario. I hope to pursue a topic that intrigues both me and my readers. An excellent topic would involve the intersection of two topics. By intersecting topics, my research topic will become focus and organized. I am currently trying to create a complex research question between social media and privacy. I have brainstormed the following: Has the rise in the prevalence of social media affected our privacy? What do you think about my research question? I hope you can provide me with some constructive criticism like last time!
