1. How can I register this class?

2. How does this course relate to my college life?

It teaches you a lot about the community, college, cultures and rules of studying at UIUC. All the topics covered in the course will be the knowledge you need to learn in order to success in the United States. We will touch base on important information and resources at UIUC. The discussion and content will show you how to think critically, how to make comments in the classroom setting, how to properly conduct interview and research and how to build up relationships.

 

3. Should I take this course?

New international students, including freshmen and transfer students, can benefit from taking this course. We will build up a learning community in the class. The students will have chances of practicing English, making friends, expressing ideas in a judge-free zone and becoming mentors to help other international students. (See more details at Course Content  and Why This Class?)

 

4. Can this course replace LAS 101? 

No, it can not. All freshman in LAS will still need to register for LAS 101. However, this course is a complement for LAS 101. We will cover some topics that directly related to international students and interpret concepts from different aspects.

 

5. Am I required to take this class?

No, you are not. This is not a required course. However, it is highly recommended. We cover a wide range of topics that can help you successfully transfer to a college and a new culture.
